The history of Doosan forklift business begins with Korea
Machinery Co., Ltd., the predecessor of Doosan Infracore Co.,
Ltd. In the late 60s, the domestic forklift market was
an open-import type market composed of equipment mostly
sold by the U.S. Military Authority and some imported
equipment. The government authorized Korea Machinery Co.,Ltd.
to import assembled forklifts as part of the industrial
machinery expansion project on the condition that Korea
Machinery Co., Ltd. would sell forklifts after acquiring
related technologies. Sales of this initial equipment
focused on state-run corporations and large business groups.
In 1967, Korea Machinery Co., Ltd. re-evaluated its strategy
of low volume production of diversified products, and
changed its business direction to the planned production
system.
When Korea Machinery signed a technical tie-up agreement
with Komatsu, Japan, it began to assemble the model FD20.
That was the Doosan forklift No. 1. The Forklift Division
expanded its business through the above process. In 1973,
it established a sound foundation for forklift demand
when it succeeded in supplying forklifts to the armed
forces. When Korea Machinery Co., Ltd. was merged into
Doosan Infracore Co., Ltd. in 1976, the Forklift Division
opened 4 business outlets, in Seoul, Pusan, Taegu and
Kwangju, hiring salespeople and after-sales support personnel
and providing training to strengthen the sales structure.
In 1978, a forklift production plant was completed, and
efforts were focused on developing products and improving
quality through continuoustechnical training.
These efforts resulted in the production and sale of more
than 1,000 units in 1978.
